Wine tasting: 3 wine examples – ‘A Journey through the Saale/Unstrut Region – All in White’

In early May 2026, we welcomed four very friendly ladies from Brandenburg, who had booked the wine tasting online quite some time beforehand.

Quite spontaneously, the tasting turned into a three-course culinary wine tasting, and it turned out to be a thoroughly enjoyable evening. A cheese platter was served as the starter, followed by one of our South Tyrolean dishes tailored to each lady’s preference as the main course, and by the end, not everyone had room for dessert. It all happened on the spur of the moment, but it gave us the idea of offering a tasting with a paired menu alongside our guided wine tastings in future. Just get in touch.

The expert and connoisseur of Saale-Unstrut wines can tell immediately from the tasting notes that the 2025 Freygeist has made things harder for the following Riesling than necessary. The Freygeist is an excellent choice to start the tasting due to its unique origins and the associated introduction to the wines of the Saale and Unstrut regions. Nevertheless, a Gutedel, for example, would have been a better choice as the first wine.

The third wine, Traminer, was not described in the notes, so as to leave it up to the guests: the ladies’ sensory skills were surprisingly well developed. Someone claimed to have detected a hint of liquorice – specifically, Haribo liquorice snails. We all agreed that there was indeed something to it.

The tasting followed our sample theme, “A Journey Through the Saale/Unstrut Region – All in White.” We are more than happy to accommodate special requests and interests. However, we also have additional suggestions for how the wine tasting can be structured around the main focus: the wines themselves.

2025 Spätburgunder Rose Winery Frölich Hake

2025 Spätburgunder Rosé Weingut Frölich Hake

Delicate, crisp and characterised by the Muschelkalk: this Pinot Noir Rosé epitomises elegance and structure. Aromas of raspberry and redcurrant are complemented by a fresh hint of lime. The subtle minerality lends the wine a sleek, stylish character and creates a pleasant tension on the palate. It is supple yet precise, with a balance of fruit and cool freshness that makes it particularly versatile.
