Coffee and coffee specialities
It is not known who came up centuries ago with the idea of harvesting the small coffee cherries hanging green from the coffee plant, roasting them, grinding them and brewing them with hot water. But everyone knows that drinking coffee is a cultural asset in Italy and almost a sacred ritual that is vehemently defended. We like to be an Italian exclave. Our espresso machine is from Milan, our espresso beans are roasted in Piedmont and delivered from there, the coffee is grown in South America. Italia amore mio.

Cappucino at Friedrich - made by hand with love
The cappuccino has many fans - in Italy as well as in other countries. The cappuccino is also very popular in our bar. Preparing a cappuccino that takes you back to your last holiday in Italy is not rocket science. It's really easy with fully automatic coffee machines - ugh - or - ugh - instant. By this we don't mean a cappuccino.

Affogato al caffé
Affogato al caffé is an Italian dessert that consists solely of espresso and vanilla ice cream. We stick to the Italian original with no gimmicks:

Café Americano
It is believed that American military personnel who came ashore in Sicily from North Africa in July 1943 discovered Italian coffee for themselves and were enthusiastic about the smell and flavour. Anyone who has ever had coffee in a diner in rural America today will be able to understand this. The GIs liked the espresso, but it was too strong for them.

Espresso - more than just a simple drink
A certain Luigi Bezzera (he was granted a patent for this in 1902) and a little later Mr Desiderio Pavoni (a coffee house owner who bought the rights to the patent) invented the brewing of coffee under high pressure at the beginning of the last century and built the first espresso machines under the Pavoni brand in a small workshop. Since then, the drink known as espresso has made a triumphal march around the world from Italy.
