Affogato al caffé
Affogato al caffé is an Italian dessert that consists solely of espresso and vanilla ice cream. We stick to the Italian original with no gimmicks:
One or - at the guest's request - two scoops of vanilla ice cream are placed in a cup (an espresso cup is definitely too small for two scoops of ice cream - we leave it at one cup) or a glass and then poured over with hot espresso. From the front: Two scoops of vanilla ice cream: too much for one espresso. Espresso belongs in an espresso cup, not so much in a glass. So we only make the original: We place a scoop of vanilla ice cream in an espresso cup. We place the cup with the ice cream in it under the portafilter and pour an espresso from our 2016 Vibiemme Revolution over it, just as it should be.
Folks: A pleasure!
The scoop of ice cream ‘drowns’ (Italian: affogare) in the espresso. Affogato al caffè is eaten with a small spoon; the rest is drunk. We always place the small spoon on the saucer (‘piattino’). So what else?
