Cabernet Cortis - mature leaf

Cabernet Cortis

Cabernet Cortis is a blue PIWI (fungus-resistant) variety and a cross between Cabernet Sauvignon and Solaris, which was created in 1982 at the State Viticulture Institute in Freiburg.

Cabernet Cortis grapes are heavy, the berries medium to large in size. The grapes ripen relatively early. It produces tasty wines with pronounced tannins. Herbal tones and green notes are characteristic, the taste is reminiscent of Cabernet Sauvignon.

According to other sources, the red wine variety originated from a cross between Cabernet Sauvignon and the so-called ‘Cortisol’. We still need to verify this precisely. In any case, this grape was specifically bred to offer high resistance to disease and good adaptability to different climatic conditions. Cabernet Cortis is characterised by fruity aromas and a pleasant tannin structure, which makes it an interesting choice for wine lovers.
