Falko Matte I Exhibition
"Opposition to the prescriptive world of the Beautiful and the Sublime: photography’s protest against painting"
Nietzsche made this note, though it was not intended for immediate publication. The sentence can be found in the papers covering the period from winter 1870/71 to autumn 1872, as published in the Critical Study Edition edited by Giorgio Colli and Mazzino Montinari.
We don’t want to protest against paintings; we actually really like them too. But you really shouldn’t miss the black-and-white photographs on display, which are the result of Falko Matte’s eye, lens, camera, darkroom, skill and passion.
