Rivaner variety

Müller-Thurgau was first cultivated in the Swiss canton of Thurgau in 1882. This white wine grape was bred by the Swiss vine researcher Hermann Müller.

Müller-Thurgau is a very productive and successful new variety. Although the date and breeder are known, scholars can argue for nights over a glass of Müller-Thurgau as to whether the white wine was bred from a Riesling and Silvaner or just different Riesling plants. For marketing reasons, this variety is now also called Rivaner. This neologism suggests the descent of Müller-Thurgau from Riesling and Silvaner, which its creator Müller also announced.
