2023 Lagrein Grill Winery A. V. Elzenbaum, Tramin
On a journey through the wine cellars of South Tyrol, we tasted this 2023 Lagrein from the single vineyard Grill in Tramin, South Tyrol, from the local winery A. V. Elzenbaum, among others.
A classic Tyrolean wine with a garnet red colour, very spicy aroma with notes of leather, earth and dark chocolate, also violets, cherry and blackberry.
The A. V. Elzenbaum family winery was first mentioned in a record in 1530. Today it is run by the sixth generation. Around 3000 bottles of this Lagrein ‘Grill’ - the name of the vineyard - were bottled for the 2023 vintage. Lagrein is generally regarded as South Tyrol's oldest grape variety. This Lagrein ‘Grill’ from the Elzenbaum winery matures for between seven and nine months in steel tanks. Its velvety flavour is typical of Lagrein - and this one is no exception.
