2022 Johanniter Spätlese Winery Wartenberg
This special wine, made from the fungus resistant Johanniter grape variety, is an impressive representative of its type. Its strong, walnut-maripan-like flavour is accompanied by a fruity, tart aroma of dried apricots, mandarin peel and Williams pear.
The cellar master himself has the following to say about this Johanniter: "Interestingly, this grape variety was bred to imitate a cuvée of Riesling and Pinot Gris. Johanniter is therefore unique in its flavour profile and combines the best of both worlds: the power and strength of Pinot Gris and the elegance and finesse of Riesling. It is also particularly noteworthy that this fungus resistant grape variety can be grown without the use of pesticides. This is not only good for the environment, but also for the quality of the wine. The flavour of Johanniter is powerful and impressive, with a pronounced minerality and a long finish. The fruity flavours and pleasant acidity round off the taste perfectly."
